President Paul Biya Appoints Son As Vice President

Cameroon's President, Paul Biya, 93, has appointed his son Franck Emmanuel Biya as Vice President of the Republic and Head of the Armed Forces, thus consolidating control over the country's political and military structures amid heightened unrest and disputed elections.

The appointment, announced in an official decree, also designates Franck Biya as Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Defence, placing him at the centre of Cameroon's security architecture.

This decision has sparked concerns over succession planning and democratic governance in Cameroon, with critics accusing Biya of tightening his grip on power. The opposition argues that the move undermines democratic principles and concentrates power in the executive.
