The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has postponed its upcoming state, local government, and polling units congresses, scheduled for today, April 7, 2026.
A statement by the state Chairman of the party, Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, on Monday, noted that the postponement was necessary to accommodate a large number of prominent defectors who recently joined the party.
The new members include a three-time PDP gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Isa Mohammed Ashiru, a serving senator, Barr Khalid Soba, Sen Danjuma Lar, four National Assembly members, four state Assembly members as well as others from various political parties.
Mustapha, further explained that the party valued equity, fairness, and internal democracy, pointing out that, holding the congresses without the input of the new entrants would jeopardize their interests and representations.
According to Mustapha, “The ADC Kaduna State, believes that conducting the congress at this time would be premature, futile, and may affect the representation of these new members because it will not reflect the true position of the party’s growing strength at the moment.”
The congresses have been rescheduled for the first week of May 2026 to ensure fairness and allow all members to participate, even as the leadership has
assured that the party had communicated the decision to the National Headquarters and apologized for any inconvenience this may cause.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding,” Mustapha added, stressing ADC's commitment to inclusivity and internal democracy.
