I Haven't Defected From PDP, I'm A Loyal PDP Member

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, has dismissed reports suggesting he planned to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying he remained a loyal member of the PDP. 

There had been speculation in the social media that the governor was considering a move to the APC with some reports claiming the defection could happen within the next few days.

However, in a brief interview with reporters after the swearing-in of 17 newly appointed permanent secretaries at the Government House on Wednesday, Mohammed declined to grant a full interview but said,“Pressmen, no interview for now. I will speak with Channels at 7 pm. 

 “I have not moved; they said that I have defected.”

 He also, described himself as an “international figure in politics,” noting that he would provide further clarification on the matter later in the day.

Addressing the newly appointed permanent secretaries earlier, Mohammed urged them to uphold integrity and avoid corruption, stressing that his administration would not tolerate any act capable of bringing the government into disrepute.

He also called for discipline and professionalism, warning against insubordination and partisan involvement in politics while in office.

The governor further encouraged them to mentor younger civil servants, pointing out that ongoing reforms depended on building a new generation of young people grounded in ethics and competence.

Mohammed also furthermore, reassured retirees of his administration’s commitment to clearing outstanding gratuities estimated at about N20 billion, revealing that payment of 13-year arrears began in January 2026.

The oath of office was administered by the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Talatu Musa Umar.
