FG Says New Education Curriculum To Commence January 2025 with 15 Newly Introduced Subjects 

The Federal Government has announced that a new curriculum for basic education, including 15 newly introduced trade subjects, will be implemented across Nigerian schools starting in January 2025. Senior secondary education will adopt the new curriculum in September 2025, according to Education Minister Professor Tahir Mamman.

The Federal Government says that a new

curriculum for basic education will commence across schools in the country by January 2025.
The new curriculum would include 15 newly introduced trade subjects for basic education.
Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, who spoke on Monday in Abuja, at a stakeholders meeting on the implementation of the new curriculum, even as the new curriculum for senior secondary education would commence later in September 2025.
Mamman stressed that the new curriculum would address problems of learning crises and employability as the new skills acquisition to be introduced would have multiplier effect by equipping students with 21st-century skills.
According to the minister, the next three months would be used for the preparatory stage, including preparing teachers’ guides for the use of the curriculum.
Earlier, the Director of Curriculum, Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, NERDC, Dr Garba Gandu, had explained that the new curriculum would 
provide prerequisite skills and training for global competitiveness adding that the new curriculum included 15 newly introduced trade subjects.
According to Gandu, the subjects are basic digital literacy such as information technology, and vocational entrepreneurship skills such as building and construction, plumbing and tiling.
Others are hospitality such as hair styling, and make-up and services such as construction, GSM repairs, satellite and CCTV installation as well as maintenance and garment making, among others.
