Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, on Monday again, invaded the Abuja residence of the former Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, forcefully ejecting occupants in what witnesses described as a coordinated operation.
Sources said the incident reportedly occurred at Malami’s Maitama residence shortly after a meeting with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who had earlier visited in the day.
Reporters learnt that Atiku spent about an hour at the residence before departing, even as the DSS operatives had taken strategic positions around the property during the visit but moved in after Atiku left.
A source further said the operatives advanced immediately after the former vice-president exited the premises.
As of the time of filing this report, the exact reason for the raid remained unclear.
The incident has heightened political tension, coming amid growing allegations that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is targeting opposition figures ahead of future elections.
Malami, who has been facing corruption charges in recent weeks, is believed by critics to be under political pressure.
Some have alleged that the legal actions against him form part of a broader strategy to weaken dissenting voices and encourage defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
However, the Presidency has consistently denied such claims, maintaining that ongoing prosecutions of former officials are based strictly on the rule of law.
Officials insist that actions taken against public office holders are not politically motivated.
Earlier on Monday, Atiku had shared photographs from his visit to Malami on social media but made no reference to the subsequent raid by security operatives.
