Vice President Shettima Says No Alternative To Hardship
... As Tinubu and I empathise with Nigerians

The Vice President, Kassim Shettima, has said that there is no alternative to severe hardship currently due to Federal Government's economic reforms, even as he expressed deep empathy on behalf of himself and President Bola Tinubu for the hardships.

Shettima spoke at the Nigeria Economic Summit in Abuja, noting that the reforms were crucial to achieving sustainable growth in the country.
His words,  "Our hearts go out to Nigerians, especially the poor and young, enduring difficult times.
“But we have no option if we must return Nigeria to the path of sustainable economic growth...
“The challenges are significant, but they are manageable. With the right policies, partnerships, and cohesion, Nigeria can emerge stronger, more competitive, and resilient.”
The Vice President, further noted that Nigeria’s economy had been volatile, over-reliant on oil, and unable to create enough jobs for the country’s rapidly growing population, adding that government was focusing on diversifying the economy through sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and the digital economy.
According to him, the government had also doubled its  efforts to support small and medium-sized businesses, improve infrastructure, and remove regulatory bottlenecks, with the introduction of single-digit interest loans for manufacturers and a new credit corporation to offer consumer loans to workers.
Commenting on the poor security situation in the country, Shettima stressed government’s commitment to combat terrorism and banditry, while implementing fiscal reforms like subsidy removal and debt management to stabilize the economy.
He further stressed the need for
collaboration between the public and private sectors to overcome the harsh economic crises, pointing out that the Nigeria Economic Summit served as a platform to foster dialogue as well as drive growth and stability.
