Soldiers of Operation Udoka 11, of the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, have rescued a kidnapped three year old girl, after arresting her suspected kidnapper.
The suspect, whose name was given as Hyacinth Obodike, 35, was said to have abducted the little girl after buying local gin (Ogogoro) and cigarettes, both worth N300 and giving her sister N200 before asking the little girl to follow him to a nearby building to collect the remaining N100 balance.
It was said that the incident took place near the Shagari Low Cost Housing Estate, along Imufu- Aji MCC Road at Enugu Ezike in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of the state on Monday, August 4, 2025.
The incident reportedly took place between 10 and 11 am, when the victim's mother, Mrs Chikwokwu Onu, had gone to the nearby market to buy food items, leaving her last three children in her shop.
It was alleged that Obodike had asked the victim's, elder sister, Chicago to "follow him to a nearby building to collect the balance of N100, but the older girl declined, saying that her other two little siblings would cry if she left because their mother was not around, hence the suspected kidnapper tricked the little girl who was simply identified as Chi to accompany him. He had held the little girl's hand to a place where he carried her to the lonely "White House," a one- storey building, where he was the only tenant.
The sources said, "It was at about 2 pm when Chi's mother returned to the shop and looked for the girl without finding her. On enquiry, she was told that her daughter went to collect N100 balance from a man , whose name or identity was not known, before she raised an alarm which attracted other neighbours.
"A welder who was erecting an iron gate at the 'white house," was said to have let the cat out of the bag, when he confirmed seeing the little girl and his customer, enter the compound, following which the soldiers were alerted over the development, leading to the rescue of the victim and the suspects arrest.
"The little girl told the soldiers that while in her captors room, Obodike, fumbled her private part and used his fingers to violate her after wetting them with his own saliva."
Obodike confessed the girls allegation when he was confronted.
Both the medical personnel working with the soldiers and tests conducted by doctors at the General Hospital, Enugu Ezike, confirmed the victims version of the story about her "defilement."
Although the police kept sealed lips over the incident at Ogurute Enugu Ezike, the victims father, Okwudili Onu, confirmed the story. Onu said that his family had altogether, spent over N25,000 on medical tests," as well as "ensuring that the crime case was recorded in the crime diary by the police."
