Tinubu Replaces IGP Egbetokun With Tunji Disu

President Bola Tinubu has directed the removal of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun from office and replaced him an Assistant Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu.

Sources said that Egbetokun stepped down after meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday adding that his resignation followed the instruction given during that meeting.

AIG Disu, was in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, CID, Annex in Lagos before the latest development.

Egbetokun was appointed the 22nd indigenous IGP on June 19, 2023, after his appointment by President Tinubu, following which his position was later confirmed by the Police Council on October 31, 2023.

At the time he was appointed, he was 58 years old. By law, he was meant to retire on September 4, 2024, when he would turn 60.

However, the National Assembly later changed the police law. The amendment allowed him to complete a full four-year term as Inspector General unless the president decided otherwise.

Following that amendment, he was expected to remain in office until October 31, 2027, but his removal has now brought his tenure to an end.
