A brazen daylight robbery attempt unfolded today at a United Bank for Africa (UBA) branch in Ughelli, Delta State. Unidentified gunmen launched a violent attack, putting lives at risk and disrupting operations.
Reports indicate the assailants targeted a bank customer entering the facility. They reportedly blocked the customer's vehicle outside the bank, possibly suspecting a large cash deposit.
An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, described the rapid escalation of events. They entered the bank just minutes before the attack began and stated there was no opportunity for the robbers to gain entry. Fortunately, armed police stationed at the branch were quick to react, engaging the gunmen in a shootout.
Despite the police response, the situation turned tragic. The eyewitness account alleges that the robbers shot two bystanders before fleeing the scene. Additionally, they reportedly abducted one person, further escalating the gravity of the crime.
Details about the abducted individual and the extent of the injuries suffered by the shooting victims remain unclear. However, reports indicate the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The robbers reportedly used a gold-colored Toyota Venza as their getaway vehicle.
