The Nigerian Army has detained an Army Major whose batman was killed by Fulani herdsmen while working in the Major's farm in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Military sources said Major M. A. Imamu, of G4 7 Division Headquarters, Maimalari Barracks, Maiduguri, Borno State.was being quizzed following the alleged killing of his batman by suspected herdsmen with poisoned arrow.
The incident reportedly occured at a time one Staff Sergeant Peter Oluseun, attached to the escort team of the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 7 Division, Major General U. C. Unachukwu, died when the vehicle conveying some soldiers skidded into the bush and tumbled.
The soldiers were on official assignment at a time when terrorists were alleged to have used drones to bomb some military locations at Molai area of Maiduguri when the accident occured. No casualties were recorded as troops were rescued from the scene of trouble.
However, it was revealed that it was not unusual for officers to deploy soldiers attached to them as batmen or security sides for domestic house jobs including farming or tending cattle as herdsmen.
However, Major Imamu's batman was allegedly working alone in his farm unarmed when some suspected Fulani herdsmen killed him with a poisoned arrow.
The poisoned arrow reportedly hit the soldier on the chest, leading to his instant death.
The poisoned arrow was further said to have caused the body of the deceased soldier to decompose within some hours after his brutal killing.
Security sources told reporters that the corpse of the deceased soldier was in a very bad state of decomposition by the time it was discovered after the unfortunate incident following the bad effect of the poisoned arrow.
