A secondary school teacher in Kogi State, Peter Ali Kizito Onoja, has died of Sickle Cell Anemia at the age of 59 years.
Peter was the twin brother of a Professor of Agriculture, University of Port Harcourt, and President, Agricultural Policy Research Network, APRN, Prof. Anthony Onoja.
Born at Ogugu Centre, Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state, on April 28, 1967, Peter wished to be ordained as a Catholic priest but could not achieve his heart desires because of the sickle cell anemia disease.
He had his early education which was almost truncated due to his poor state of health at Roman Catholic Church Primary School, Ogugu, then in Ankpa Local Government from 1974 to 1981, and completed his secondary education at Ogugu Community Secondary School from 1981 to 1987, before proceeding to the Institute of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, in Kaduna State for his Nigerian Certificate in Education, NCE, certificate before he got admission for a degree programme at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN.
Peter graduated with a
B.SC Education, in History in 2004, and soon joined the Civil Service as an Education Officer. He rose to the position of Deputy Director of Education, serving as the Vice Principal of the QIC Secondary School, Ogugu before his death on January 12, 2026. He was buried in his compound behind the QIC Secondary School, Ogigu.
