US President, Donald Trump has expressed surprise that US allies in the Gulf have been targeted by Iran, describing the situation as the ‘biggest surprise of the whole thing.’
Trump spoke in an interview with the NBC News, noting that he was “surprised” that Iran has chosen to hit US allies in the Gulf in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Gulf states had assured Tehran that none of their bases would be utilized for assaults, yet this has not deterred Iran from launching thousands of drones and missiles aimed at airports, military installations, oil refineries, ports, hotels, and office complexes.
According to him these "terrific" nations got "shot at unnecessarily.”
On Iran’s choice to target them, Trump said it was “the biggest surprise I had of this whole thing.”
For many years, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Oman have permitted the establishment of US military bases, infrastructure, or access on their territories.
They have been also, among the largest purchasers of American arms and technology. In exchange, the US has served as the Gulf’s closest and most vital military ally and protector.
