The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has restated her readiness to pursue her sexual harassment lawsuit against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to its logical conclusion.
Natasha also said that the matter must be resolved by the court.
These were contained in a letter dated April 30, 2025, and addressed to Akpabio’s counsel and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Olisa Agbakoba.
Akpoti-Uduaghan noted that her allegations of sexual harassment were rooted in truth adding that she would refrain from further comments as the matter was subjudice. The ongoing dispute followed a suit filed by Akpabio’s wife, Unoma Akpabio, against Natasha at the Federal Capital Territory High Court (Suit No. CV/816/25), referencing same allegations.
However, reacting to Agbakoba's demands
for evidence outside the judicial process, Natasha frowned at the move, describing it as a fundamental misunderstanding of the legal framework surrounding sexual harassment.
Her words, "The assessment of evidence belongs to the courts alone. The nature of your demand for evidence in this manner, at the instance of your client, simply indicates a broader misconception of what truly amounts to sexual harassment as prescribed in several global protocols...
“Any further particulars required will be furnished in the ordinary course of disclosure, subject to the direction of the Honourable Courts. ..This contradiction is irreconcilable.
"Attempts to circumvent this regulated process risk undermining the rule of law."
Senator Natasha further noted that Agbakoba’s request reflected a narrow view of the issue, describing Akpabio's attempt to downplay the matter by shifting it into the public space rather than allowing due legal process.
According to the female lawmaker, the Senate President’s decision to demand evidence in the media was bizzare as he had earlier used his previleged position to block the matter from being addressed in the Senate.
