Eagle Online Publisher, Dotun Oladipo Dies @ 56, Sending Shockwaves Across The Media Community
Founder and publisher of the Eagle Online magazine, Dotun Oladipo, 56, is dead, thus throwing the Nigerian media community into deep mourning.
The veteran journalist, who also served as an emeritus President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, GOCOP, unexpectedly  passed away on Tuesday August 25, 2026, evening after suffering from a sudden health emergency.
Close professional associates said the top journalist appeared healthy and was going about his normal activities earlier in the day.
Friends confirmed having steady discussions with Oladipo who had reportedly gone to the gym with his wife earlier in the morning of the fateful Tuesday  and even made his last social media post just hours before his death.
The tragedy unfolded later in the evening when Oladipo suddenly fell ill while en route to a meeting. He reportedly managed to get in touch with his doctor through the telephone through a bystander.
However, in spite of the doctor’s telephone guidance and swift attempts by those nearby to revive him, his efforts proved abortive Oladipo passed away before getting medical help, even as
preliminary reports suggest he suffered a heart attack.
Oladipo's worked with top media platforms, including The Punch Newspapers and the Newswatch  Magazine among others.
His sudden death comes roughly a year and a half after he, his wife, and daughter narrowly escaped death in March 2025 during the infamous Otedola Bridge tanker fire.
While his family survived that horrific incident, Oladipo’s vehicle was destroyed, and his longtime mechanic, Rotimi Olaleye, unfortunately lost his life.
News of his death has sent shockwaves across the Nigerian digital media space, with members of GOCOP and the journalism community offering prayers and condolences to those left behind to mourn him.
