Three Labour Party, LP, lawmakers including two members of the House of Representatives and a member of the state House of Assembly, have officially resigned from the party and joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Enugu State.
The LP members who renounced their membership of the party and joined the PDP, where they originally belonged to include the member representing Igboeze North/ Udenu Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Dennis Agbo, Hon Chidi Obetta representing Nsukka/Igboeze South federal constituency and Hon Malachy Onyechi, representing Nsukka West state Constituency.
The three lawmakers defected, on Thursday, and were received at the PDP state secretariat at the GRA, Enugu by the state party Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike.
Hon Dennis Agbo said that with their defections, the Labour Party has finally collapsed into the PDP in Enugu North Senatorial district, also known as Nsukka zone, adding that they detecting members were attracted by the "superlative performance of Governor Peter Mbah in all sectors, including education, health and agriculture," in the state.
Hon Chidi Obetta spoke in the same vein with Hon. Agbo, insisting that it was the good governance of Mr. Peter Mbah that made all of them to return to the PDP which was their previous political platform.
His words, "I've come to tell you that I'm back to my house, PDP. My return is predicated on Mbah's good governance. He is touching everywhere, in transportation, in education he is doing over 7000 classrooms in the smart schools project.
"In healthcare he is performing magic, in hospitality, infrastructure etc. The reason we decided to return is to partner with the governor to increase development. I know he is doing something on insecurity and we will all join hands to deliver PDP in 2027."
Earlier, Agbo had maintained that Governor Mbah's achievements was the primary driving force for their defections and gave appreciation to the political leaders in their various constituencies whom he said believed in them while they were in the Labour Party and on their return to the PDP.
"Now that change has come, we need you to understand again and go with us. After today nothing remains again of the Labour party in Enugu North Senatorial zone. Here we are all the foot soldiers. The government has made opposition difficult in the state. The Governor is preparing the future of the state and it's people. I'm going to be part of what is happening here under Peter Mbah and he deserves second tenure and and has made politics and his re-election easy. He is doing transformation in the state and I'm happy to be home," he added.
Welcoming the new members and their supporters, the state PDP chairman, Dr Chukwunwike stated that the 2023 election tsunami in the state happened because of the returnees who left the PDP for the Labour Party, noting that, the 2027 election would be seamless and peaceful as the state has once more become one political family under the PDP's umbrella.
