Odinkalu Says El- Rufai Not Being Treated Fairly By Federal Authorities
Former National Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Chidi Odinkalu, has lamented that the former Governor of Kaduna State and minister of Abuja Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nasir El- Rufai is not being fairly treated well by the Federal Government.
Odinkalu said that although as governor of Kaduna State, El- Rufai was lawless, he should not treated same way he treated others.
According to him, although El- Rufai is "a  very little man," the rights in the 1999 Constitution"are not meant to protect merely people whom we like or agree with, as no one in Nigeria should be above the law or beneath it.
"As @GovKaduna, @elrufai was lawless. I disagreed with him then. Today, he is being treated as beneath the law. I disagree with that too.
"I call @elrufai a #VileLittleMan. But the rights in the constitution of Nigeria are not meant to protect merely people whom we like or agree with. No one in Nigeria should be above the law or beneath it," he stated.
Odinkalu further noted that the constitution was "clear on the standards of pre-trial detention; and it prohibits administrative detention,"
"If @icpcnigeria, @OfficialDSSNG or whoever else is holding him have crimes against him which are tenable in court, they shd charge him to court.
"Whatever happens, there is no legal basis or justification for keeping him or anyone in detention interminably. That is keeping a citizen beneath the law. It is unlawful, unjustifiable & unconstitutional," he added.
