NDC Accuses Tinubu Of Pushing More Nigerian Families Into Poverty Following ABU's Fee Hike

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has accused All Progressives Congress, APC- led administration of President Bola Tinubu of allegedly worsening the economic hardship of Nigerian families following the increase in registration fees at the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria.
The ABU made an upward review of fees  for the 2026/2027 academic session requiring undergraduate students to pay between N143,000 and N298,000, depending on their programmes and levels of study.

Students of the University paid between
N62,000 and N84,000 previously before the new charges.
However, reacting to the development, the NDC noted that  the increase would place additional pressure on families struggling to give their children  university education, pointing out that
parents would no longer afford the cost of higher education under the current economic hardship.
"We empathise with Nigerian students who are now bearing the brunt of the failed policies of the Tinubu-led administration.
“The take-home pay of many working-class Nigerians who depend on federal institutions like ABU to see their children through higher education cannot even take them home, let alone cover the new fee increase,” the NDC said, adding that
the development was another burden on students and families, due to what it described as the “anti-people policies” of the administration.
The NDC also expressed sympathy with ABU students affected by the new charges, promising that Peter Obi's administration would prioritise university funding and create an environment that  would enable young Nigerians to thrive.
