Massive Theft: Former Pension Tax- Force Chair, Abdurasheed Maina Calls For Probe Of Ex- AGF, Abubakar Malami

Former Pension Tax- Force Chair, Abdurasheed Maina, has called for thorough investigation into the activities of former Attorney-General of the Federation and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, alleging that
there was large-scale theft of public funds and questionable asset recoveries linked to his office.
Maina spoke while reacting to issues surrounding asset recovery and  corruption within government in a video seen by SaharaReporters, pointing out that what authorities had uncovered so far represented only a fraction of the alleged funds involved.

Maina also recounted events involving his alleged summons from abroad, to head the recovery panel, referencing former presidents and senior government officials.
According to him, pressure was later applied through his family, before he agreed to take up the job.
Maina also made allegations about misappropriations of recovered assets linked to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission under a former leadership.
He said he was an expert in tracing stolen funds, stressing that he recovered N1.6 trillion under President Goodluck Jonathan's administration.
According to Maina, “Malami allegedly stole a lot of funds. What government has seen so far is not even one quarter, because my specialty is the recovery of public funds. I trace funds wherever they are, and that is why they have been after me.
“We can recover these funds from Malami; they are more than what has been seen. What are N217billion properties?."
Maina further claimed that 227 properties were recovered under the former EFFC boss but were later shared between Magu, Abubakar among others.
“...227 properties (recovered) under Magu. And I can tell you, allegedly, these properties were shared among Magu and his cohorts cohorts and Malami. It is one of the reasons for the fallout of Malami and Magu.
“How could somebody come to Abu Dhabi? The president, the late president, may his soul rest in peace, Muhammadu Buhari, was there. They begged me. I refused to come to Nigeria.
“They went back, came back to Nigeria, went and made my mother insist that I must come, because Jonathan had told them I recovered N1.6 trillion during his time. This can be ascertained by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. She’s there,”
He further claimed that, most of the stealing occured during the last Buhari- administration... "I don’t believe this could happen in this administration..."
He further claimed that more recovered assets were linked to Malami, questioning the scale of properties already associated with the current investigations, even as he further expressed support for ongoing accountability efforts.
“Yes, the government is doing the right thing. The government is doing the right thing because if we don’t start, there must be accountability, transparency, and the rule of law, which is what I see this government is actually doing," he added.
He, however, contrasted the current situation with previous administrations, noting that the alleged activities occurred in the past.
