Enugu Community Gets Electricity After 64 Years Of Darkness

...As jubilation continues in Odoru Isiugwu  As Community Commissions N50 million Electricity Project through Self- help

After waiting for over 64 years without electricity, portable water and health facilities, the people of Odoru Isiugwu rural community in Enugu Ezike, Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, have begun moves to do it themselves by providing the social amenities through self- help.
The Oyinatu Ora 1 of Isiugwu, Chief Emeka Ali, in collaboration with Odoru Youths Association, alongside some community leaders in the area, commissioned their N50 million Rural Electrification Project on October 1, 2024.
The electricity project was earlier awarded by the World Bank but it failed after four years owing to the use of substandard electrical materials and poor execution.
The Manager Director of the Bonus Nigeria Limited, which handled the project, Obiora Ugwuanyi, who handed over the completed project to the leaders and elders of the community, noted that it was completed within a record three months period.
"Following the signing of the contract for this project on June 28, 2024; we swung into action and it took us from the end of June till now. Our appeal is that the Odoru Community of Isiugwu, should protect this facility because it is not easy to replace stolen or vandalized materials. Vandalised or stolen materials are expensive, costly to replace.
"One of your illustrious sons, Chief Emeka Ali asked me to inform you that he would use this electricity to pump water from his borehole so that everybody should have free water on weekends," Ugwuanyi noted.
Other prominent indigenous people of Odoru Isiugwu who spoke included the Onyishi Isiugwu, represented by Nze Aloy Abugu, commended the Odoru Youths Association and other collaborators who made it possible for the people to see and enjoy electricity in their lifetime.
Also speaking, the President General of the community, Ambassador Ifeanyi Itodo, described the commissioning of the electricity project as a fulfilment of his life ambition.
He said that after his election on June 30, 2024, he promised that to ensure the provision of electricity, water borehole and health centre, adding that electricity had been commissioned, it remained a health centre and water which would be reticulated throughout the Isiugwu Community in due course.
"I am a very happy today. We will embark on Light-up Isiugwu Community Project on October 3, 2024. There will be a borehole and there will also be a health centre soon in Isiugw," he said.
According to Idoko, among the areas scheduled to benefit from the light up Isiugwu include Ajara, Eguogbara, Obede, Obunetiti and Obegu in the community.
