There was disaster in Borno State on Thursday night when hundreds of Boko Haram fighters invaded the 222 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, in Konduga, killing the Commanding Officer, CO, two other soldiers and sounding six other officers.
The terrorists also burned the headquarters of the Battalion after carting away about 50 motorcycles in the premises.
Furthermore, the terrorists also, burnt houses belonging residents around the military zone.
Sources from Maiduguri confirmed the ugly development, saying that both the state Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum and the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 7 Division, Brig Gen UV Unachukwu,
had visited the scene of the incident.
A source said, "These useless people attacked our soldiers in 222 battalion location at Konduga last night at about 10 pm killing the Commanding Officer and two other soldiers, and wounding six others, who have now been taken to 7 Division Hospital for treatment.
"They also burned the headquarters and vehicles. Catered away over 50 motorcycles. Some of the locals houses were also burned.
Both the 7 DIV GOC and the Borno State Governor, Zulum have visited the place to access the situation this morning."
