Atiku Spanks Tinubu Over Death Of Ex-Lawmaker In Kidnappers’ Den
The former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has berated President Bola Tinubu's administration over the death of former House of Representatives member, Abba Adamu, in the custody of kidnappers.
Adamu was abducted by armed bandits along the Abuja-Kaduna highway on May 3. However, despite efforts by his family to secure his freedom, he reportedly died nine days later while still in captivity.
However, in a statement in Abuja by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku described the development as a painful reflection of the worsening security situation in the country.
He further said that Adamu's death highlighted what he described as the Federal Government’s inability to adequately protect citizens and secure major highways across the country.
His words, “Adamu’s death is yet another grim reminder of the worsening collapse of security under the Tinubu administration.
“When a former member of the National Assembly can be abducted on one of the country’s most strategic highways and die in captivity, what hope remains for the ordinary Nigerian who lacks visibility, influence, or protection?”
He further regretted that if former member of the National Assembly could be kidnapped and die along one of Nigeria’s busiest roads, ordinary citizens were even more vulnerable.
Atiku also, lamented over what he described as a growing pattern of insecurity across the country, pointing out, that kidnappings and violent attacks had continued to spread from highways to farms, communities, and residential areas.
The former vice President stressed that many Nigerians now travel in fear while farming and business activities had also, been negatively affected by persistent insecurity.
His words, “A government that cannot secure its highways cannot claim to govern. A government that watches citizens get hunted like prey has failed the most elementary test of leadership,”
Atiku, further questioned the effectiveness of the Federal Government’s approach to prevalent insecurity and demanded greater accountability from the administration.
According to Atiku, Nigerians deserved clear answers on the country’s security strategy, even as repeated official statements alone would not solve the crisis.
