35 Minors Killed, Six Others Critically Injured In Ibadan Stampede, As Ooni’s Ex-wife Is Arrested

The police have confirmed that 35 minors were killed during the Children's Christmas Funfair held at the Islamic High School, Orita Bashorun, Ibadan, the Oyo State capittal, on Wednesday.

Earlier, the state Governor,  Seyi Makinde, had condemned the development and vowed  to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Gov Makinde further said the state government would arrest those responsible for the incident and commiserated with parents whose children died in the stampede.
Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Adewale Osifeso, who spoke on the development, also noted that seven suspects including the ex- wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola and the Principal of Islamic High School, Ibadan, Fasasi Abdulahi had been arrested for their roles in the tragic incident. 
In a statement in Ibadan, Osifeso described the Ooni's ex- wife as the main sponsor of the event.
"So far 35 minors have been documented dead while six others are critically injured and on various medical interventions," he said.
His words, "The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the good people of the State that  eight persons have since been arrested for their various involvement.
“These persons include the main event sponsor, Prophetess Naomi Silekunola ’f’ age 31yrs, Fasasi Abdulahi, ’m’ age 56yrs (School Principal Islamic High School, Ibadan), Genesis Christopher, ’m’ age 24yrs, Tanimowo Moruf,’m’ age 52yrs, Anisolaja Olabode, ‘m’ age 42yrs, Idowu Ibrahim, ‘m’ age 35yrs and Abiola Oluwatimilehin, ’m’ age 25yrs.”
Osifeso further said that six persons were injured and receiving treatment in a medical facility, pointing out that  the case had since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Iyaganku with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge leading the investigations.
He also, urged the residents not to panic “as they would witness high level patrols and visible police presence to prevent hoodlums from taking advantage of the unfortunate situation.”
