Enugu State Labour Party, LP, condemns in no unclear terms Governor Peter Mbah"s undue Interference and unnecessary meddlesomeness in the internal affairs and constitutional duties of the state Assembly.
The LP said that like every other bills introduced and passed under the current administration, the passage of the Public Ranch Management Agency Law; Property Protection Law, Environmental and Climate Protection law and Sports Development Fund Law were hurriedly passed into laws without any form of Public Hearing and due process as required by the law.
It's cords, "We are not just taken aback but utterly startled by this ugly developments. It is really worrisome that a bill will be introduced and pass through first, second, third reading and passed same day. This has become a norm in Enugu State under Governor Mbah.
"It is not only undemocratic but also unconstitutional for the state Assembly to pass bills into laws without holding public hearings and following due process. This practice is unhealthy and a clear violation of democratic principles which undermines the rights of citizens to participate in the legislative process.
"The passage of this bill without adequate scrutiny and inputs from stakeholders is unacceptable as it sets a dangerous precedent for future legislations.
"In view of the foregoing developments, we demand that the State Assembly reconsiders this rash decision and engage in a more transparent and inclusive process that allows for meaningful public participation.
"We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to join us in stoutly rejecting this undemocratic action and demanding a more accountable, responsive and responsible government.
"Governor Mba"s action of unlawfully meddling in the affairs of the State Assembly, coercing them to bypass due process and neglect their constitutional responsibilities is not just morally reprehensible but also unconstitutional.
"The practice of strong-arming the State Assembly into boycotting public hearings and ignoring established procedures is nothing short of undermining the very fabric of our democracy.
"Finally, we urge the State Assembly members elected under the platform of Labour Party to resist this executive overreach and uphold their constitutional mandate to represent the people."
