Born on January 26, 1979, to the family of Chief Gabriel and Ezinne Mary Abugu, Kevin was struck by a strange illness on  August 22, 2023 as he was answering a telephone call sometime after 11pm in the night and never recovered until his death in December last year.
He was rushed to an Enugu - based specialist hospital,  where he remained unconscious for a year and four months, before his finally died.

In an emotional tribute to his late son, Chief Gabriel Abugu, a retired teacher and currently the Secretary of Igboeze North Local Government Education Authority, said, "One of the most difficult tasks and heart- challenging situations for a father is to write an obituary for his son. "He was so quiet, simple and respectful. He easily advocated for peace where there was controversy and managed conflict situations to amicable and peaceful levels. He bordered less when insulted and could easily forgive and forget, when offended. He was truthful, honest, reliable and delivered on his promises. He sowed the seed of peace, not only in the family but also in public meetings and he did so with persuasion, counseling and sacrifices.
"While alive, he developed high zeal and quest for priesthood, which saw him into the Seminary School. This ambition was aborted for reasons best known to God.
