Ex-Minister Of Science & Technology, Uche Nnaji To Remain In Detention For Two Weeks
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, says it has secured a court order permitting it to detain former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji, for an initial 14 days as investigations into alleged certificate forgery continue.
The ICPC spoke while confirming  Nnaji's arrest Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, shortly after arriving from Enugu aboard a chartered flight.
An official of the ICPC noted that the court-approved remand would  enable investigators to interrogate the former minister over the allegations, with the possibility of seeking an extension should further investigation require additional time.
The Federal High Court had issued a warrant for Uche's arrest, when the former Minister allegedly failed to honour several invitations extended by the ICPC.
The commission had in a statement signed by its spokesperson, John Odey, confirmed Uche's arrest, pointing out that the former minister was in the commission’s custody as investigations continued into allegations bordering on the forgery of academic credentials and a National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, discharge certificate allegedly submitted during his ministerial screening process.
