The Governor Ademola Adeleke Camp in Osun State has reacted to the naming of the governor as Coordinator of President Bola Tinubu's 2027 Reelection campaign Committee in the state, pledging to deliver 1.5 million votes for Tinubu during the election.
The Imole Campaign Council said the Accord Party structure in the state would support Tinubu’s re-election bid, despite the governor’s membership of the opposition party.
Other prominent figures named in the revised list include Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike; Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State; and Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State.
Oyewumi described Adeleke’s appointment as well-deserved assuring Tinubu that the governor would deliver the state for him in the presidential election.
His words, “The Imole Campaign Council welcomes the appointment of Governor Adeleke as State Coordinator of the PBAT Presidential Campaign Council in Osun.
“The appointment is a well-deserved one. We assure the President that his confidence in the ability of Governor Adeleke to deliver Osun in the Presidential election will not be misplaced.
“We promise the President, just like Governor Adeleke said sometimes ago, that we will deliver 1.5 million votes to ensure his victory in the coming Presidential election.
The council then urged residents to support Adeleke, linking the governor’s performance in office to Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The endorsement comes amid tensions within the Osun APC over the organisation of the president’s re-election campaign in the state.
On Monday, the state chapter of the APC warned against parallel campaign activities, insisting that all efforts to secure Tinubu’s re-election must operate under the party’s leadership.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Osogbo, the state capital, APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal said the party had put in place an effective campaign committee to coordinate its activities, noting that the Imole Campaign Council members
According to Lawal, the state working committee would collaborate with Agba Osun, the party’s highest ruling body in the state, to achieve Tinubu’s re-election.
He, further warned individuals and groups against adopting separate campaign structures, urging anyone interested in supporting the president to work through the party’s leadership.
The appointment of Adeleke has, however, unsettled some APC stakeholders who had expected Gboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and the party’s leader in Osun, to lead the state campaign Committee as coordinator.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes during the last governorship poll in the state.
