Agbakoba, Falana, Bugaje, others Storm National Assembly Over Electoral Act

Some top notchers of the Movement for Credible Elections, MCE, including Chief Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, Femi Falana, SAN, Prof. Pat Utomi, Dr Usman Bugaje and Dr, Mrs Oby Ezekwesili are expected to storm the National Assembly today, Tuesday, February 17, 2026, over controversial portions in the 2022 Electoral Amendment Act.

The MCE, is a coalition of leaders of the organised civil society and labour movement, as well as lawyers will commence at 10am.

Media Coordinator of the MCE, Comrade James Ezema, made this known in a statement on Monday, noting that the protest was to escalate the ongoing complaints against Senators over the electoral reforms with a strategic world media interaction at the National Assembly.

According to the coalition, the action was aldo aimed at intensifying civic pressure on the legislature to adopt comprehensive and popular electoral reforms as demanded by Nigerians and outlined in MCE’s public petition submitted to the National Assembly last month.

Head of the MCE National Secretariat and a veteran political activist, Comrade Olawale Okunniyi, who spoke also, noted that the "media rally represents a continuation of peaceful democratic engagement to ensure that electoral laws reflect the genuine will of the Nigerian people ahead of the 2027 general elections."

Okunniyi further emphasised that credible elections remain fundamental to strengthening democracy, promoting political accountability and restoring public confidence in governance.
