Anambra billionaires partner govt to fund vigilantes

The Anambra State government is partnering wealthy but indigenous people of the area in funding security in the state.

Already, the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has set up a security fund towards the objective.

The billionaires had earlier resolved to assist the state government in funding and managing vigilante groups in the state to reduce crime to the barest minimum.

This will be done under a security trust fund set up by the state governor, Willie Obiano.

The trust fund has the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Chisco Group of companies, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu, as chairman, with former heads and retired senior officers of the various security agencies and security experts as members.

Addressing members of the trust fund at the Government House, Awka, the state capital, one of the members of the trust and CEO of G.U.O Transport Company Ltd, Chief Godwin Okeke, expressed their determination to fight criminals in the state.

According to Okeke, the trust fund would mobilise resources to empower community vigilantes across the 181 communities in the state to ensure adequate motivation for optimum performance of their jobs.

His words, “This is targeted at lightening the security burden on the police and other security agencies.

“Any moment from now, prominent people in Anambra, mostly billionaires, will start funding this project. When they start funding it, you (vigilantes) will start earning your rightful allowances.”
