An unidentified worshipper was killed inside a mosque while others were abducted when bandits invaded a Marnona village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State
The victim was killed during the early morning prayers when the attackers stormed a mosque in the community.
State Police spokesman, Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incident, saying that the command would issue a detailed statement later.
The attackers were alleged to have opened fire on the worshippers in the community while sending other residents into panic, even as several other residents were reportedly abducted by the bandits during the incident.
The Sokoto State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Isah Achida, also, confirmed the attack on the community.
Achida described the attack as “barbaric” and “an act of cowardice," regretting the target of innocent worshippers in a sacred place.
According to him, “The perpetrators must be brought to justice, and our people must remain united to defeat this menace."
Meanwhile, the police in Sokoto said an investigation had started over the attack.
