Umaru died in his sleep on Tuesday night, according to sources from Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
The sources said that the sad incident was confirmed by the authorities of Division 7, Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, on Wednesday morning.
Information surrounding Umaru's demise was scanty but sources noted that some soldiers had spent over eight years in the theatre of war without being transferred to other areas for fresh hands to relieve them in the battle field.
May God grant Col Umaru's soul eternal rest, as he died fighting to save his country from the grips of terrorists in the northeast.
