Dear Prof Chukwuma Soludo CFR,
I have deliberately stayed away from Nigerian politics because of what I currently represent in Canada. So, this is strictly my personal position.
Prof. Soludo, this is painful because you have always been one of my role models. I studied Economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka partly because of you, inspired by your trajectory from UNN to becoming a renowned economist and CBN Governor.
But the Soludo I see in politics today seems different from the man I read about and admired.
Your repeated attacks on Peter Obi are becoming difficult to understand. He did not hand over to you, and he is not contesting Anambra governorship with you. Yet, each time you come at him, you give him another opportunity to defend his record with clean facts.
On this latest allegation, Obi has stated where the N2 billion ecological fund was kept, provided the bank and account details, and challenged anyone with contrary evidence to produce it, even saying he would stop campaigning if proved wrong.
That is a serious challenge. Bring the evidence.
While some politicians go to court to restrict the release of aspects of their past records & education certifications, Obi is effectively saying: open mine and scrutinize them.
Prof., at this point, these repeated attacks increasingly come across as envy and jealousy. Or did you not properly verify these allegations before making them publicly?
Power is transient:
And if this is somehow about getting the attention of APC or positioning yourself for a future presidential or VP ticket, I doubt that strategy will deliver the outcome you expect.
If you also believe that most of us support Peter Obi simply because he is Igbo, you may be surprised. Give most South-East politicians a presidential ticket today and they would still lose woefully in the East. The political consciousness in the South-East is increasingly about competence, credibility and performance, not merely tribe.
In my view, the closest political figure in the South-East currently enjoying a similar organic reception is Governor Alex Otti of Abia State. Many others would struggle to generate that level of genuine support without the traditional political machinery, INEC and bags of rice.
Prof. Sir, Mr. Peter Obi is no longer in your political league. His contest is national.
Please focus on Anambra. Build. Deliver. Let your performance speak.
