The 19 Northern Nigerian Governors Forum, NNGF, has urged the National Assembly to amend the 1999 Constitution, as amended, by ensuring the creation of state police to boost security in the country.
This was contained in a communiqué signed by the Director General Press and, Media Affairs to Yobe State Governor, Mamman Mohammed in Kaduna, shortly after the meeting of the NNGF and their state chairmen of the traditional rulers, in Kaduna, capital of old northern region, weekend.
The communique was read by its Chairman and Yobe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
“The Forum resolved to support the creation of state police and called on the National Assembly to expedite action on the enactment of the legal framework for its take off,” Gov. Yahaya said.
The governor's also resolved to boost inter state border surveillance to effectively combat insurgency, banditry and other crimes just as they commended the Federal Government for addressing security challenges and infrastructural deficits in the country.
The Forum also expressed its determination for enhanced synergy with the Nigeria Governors Forum in combating security challenges across the country..
