Former National Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria, NHRCN, Professor Chidi Odinkalu, has slammed Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court, Lokoja, Kogi State over the shoddy manner he handled the case concerning the registration of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, as a political party.
Odinkalu, who was national chairman of the NHRCN between 2011 and 2015,
spoke in a post on his X handle, noting that Dashen "dashed" the judgement  against the NDC, to the Peace Movement Party, PMP, which was the plaintiff,  in the matter.
His words, "I have now had an opportunity to read the 18 page judgment of Isa Dashen, judge of @FederalHigh in Lokoja, in the case concerning the registration & logo of #NDC.
"The application before the court asked for two orders. The first was an order for an extension of time within which the applicants could apply to set aside the judgment of December 10 , 2025.
"The second (request) was an order setting aside the judgment. The second prayer was contingent on the first being granted.
"In the event, the judge proceeded to consider and quickly grant the second prayer without at all considering the first. "In other words, the court did not consider the question whether or not to extend the time within which the applicants could apply for the order that he issued with such alacrity and perfunctoriness
"I am wondering: without considering that underlying/first application for extension of time, to whom did the court grant the order on the second  prayer?
"I am struck that the first four letters of the name of the presiding judge spell "dash". Was the name of the presiding judge a predictor of what transpired?"
