Jonathan Not Interested In 2027 Presidency ----- Aide, Says It's All Rumour
"Na rumour wey dem dey repeat every election season," Goodluck Jonathan's Aide.
Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has no ambition of contesting the 2027 presidential election in the country, his close aide has said.
The Aide spoke on condition of anonymity in an interview with the Southeast Post online newspaper.
Reacting to the "rumour," making the rounds that some Northerners were prodding the ex- President to contest the forthcoming election in a bid to scuttle either the second term bid of President Bola Tinubu or that of Peter Obi's ambition, the aide described the hullabaloo as uncalled for as there was no iota of truth in the rumour.
Dismissing the "big fuss" as a figment of the imagination of the originators of the rumour, the aide said in pidgin English, "Na rumour wey dem dey repeat every election season, there is nothing there," and declined further comments.
Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, had earlier made statements about her husband, Goodluck Jonathan's potential return to Aso Rock.
According to recent reports, Patience had, also dismissed rumors of her husband's interest in returning to the presidency in 2027, and instead, expressed support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid and even pledged to campaign for him.
Mrs Jonathan was quoted as saying in a statement, "I stand by my friend. My friend (Remi Tinubu) is great. I told her I would campaign with her. I'm not denying her. I'm not running. I'm not going back to the villa," suggesting that her husband Goodluck Jonathan is unlikely to return to Aso Rock, as she has ruled out any comeback ambitions for herself or her husband.
Patience further stressed her belief in turn-by-turn leadership, noting,  "When it's your turn, I will support you. When it's not your turn, step back—so that the country can move forward."
