Emotional Refections On My Struggles, Setbacks & Triumphs On The Journey To The House Of Representatives ----- Hon Dennis Agbo

My beloved constituents,
I write to you today with a heavy heart, reflecting on the grueling journey that has been my pursuit of representing you in the House of Representatives. What should have been a straightforward path, guided by our collective will and the principles of democracy, turned into a relentless struggle—one that has tested every ounce of my resolve, my faith, and my belief in justice.
For three long years, I have fought to uphold integrity, probity, and the rule of law. But the road has been anything but fair. Eleven court cases, two at the Supreme Court, four at the Appeal Court, two at the Election Tribunal, and three in the High Court—I have lived through it all. And yet, it wasn’t just the legal battles that made this journey so painful; it was the sheer audacity of those who tried to sabotage our mandate, those who sought shortcuts, who whispered in my ear that I should settle, bribe, or manipulate the system. After all, “This is Nigeria,” they said.
I could have taken the easy way out. The shortcuts were there, laid bare before me. It would have been cheaper, far less draining, but at what cost to my soul? At what cost to the values we all hold dear? I refused to betray the trust you, my people, placed in me. This fight was always about more than a seat in the House of Representatives—it was about our shared dream of true democracy, of justice, of leadership we can be proud of.
My entire electoral campaign was built on the faith you have in me. It was never about power for power’s sake; it was about you—the grassroots, the people whose trust I hold so sacred. I fought for you with everything I had, but the truth is, there were those who didn’t want me on that ballot. Court cases were mounted, from both within my own party and outside it, all to silence me. But still, we stood firm, and we won. We won the 2023 election with 28,750 votes—a landslide. I thought the battle was over.
But then, the absurd happened. A candidate who barely managed 930 votes from the APC challenged my victory, a feeble and poorly prepared case that still went to court. When the tribunal dismissed it, I thought sanity had finally prevailed. But no, a bizarre twist followed—a rerun election in 165 polling units was ordered by the Appeal Court, not because I did anything wrong, but because of an omission of the APC logo in the result sheets. How was this my fault? How does this justify denying the will of the people?
Still, we faced the rerun head-on. With a commanding lead of over 12,500 votes, we should have sailed through. But what we faced on election day was not an election—it was a mockery of democracy. The security forces were compromised. INEC was compromised. My opponent walked into polling units with pre-written results. There was no election! How does one fight that kind of injustice? It felt like the world was closing in, like everything we had worked for was being stolen right before our eyes.
In that moment, I felt the weight of it all. The sleepless nights. The endless court appearances. The sacrifices we all made. I felt the frustration, the helplessness. How does one fight a system that is so bent on destruction? How do we remain hopeful when everything feels so rigged against us? I confess, there were moments when the burden was too much. Moments when I wanted to scream out loud at the sheer injustice of it all.
But somehow, through the grace of God, and the unwavering support of the people, we found a way. We fought back. We took that unjust rerun declaration to court, and it was I, the rightful winner, who became the petitioner. I fought not just for myself, but for all of us. We all knew the truth, and we knew that if Nigeria is ever to rise, we must never stop fighting for what is right.
When I look back, I’m still overwhelmed by how hard it was. The tears, the frustration, the anger at a system so willing to disregard the will of its people. And yet, I also remember the strength of our witnesses, who stood up and told the truth, the skill and determination of our lawyers, and the unwavering commitment of our people. And, of course, I am reminded that we serve a just God, one who works through the remnants of an incorruptible judiciary to bring justice, even when it seems impossible.
In the end, we prevailed. We reclaimed the mandate that was stolen. But the scars remain. The scars of a system that was willing to betray its own people for personal gain. The scars of a process that tried to break us but failed.
I share this letter with you not to dwell on the past, but to remind you—and myself—of what we’ve been through and why we must continue to fight for a better Nigeria. Our journey isn’t over. This victory is just one step on the road to something greater—a country where democracy means something, where the will of the people is respected, and where leaders are held accountable.
So, I thank you. For standing by me, for believing in me, for sharing in this struggle. And I ask you to continue standing with me, because together, we will keep pushing for the Nigeria we deserve.

With gratitude and deep emotion,

Rt Hon Dennis Nnamdi Agbo, FCA,
Member Representing Igbo Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency.
