Former Deputy National, South, of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s, PDP's, Board of Trustees, BoT, Olubode George, has thrown his weight behind the decision of his colleagues to recognize Sunday Ude-Okoye as the authentic National Secretary of the party.
There has been crisis in the former ruling party between Ude-Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu over the position of the National Secretary, with both men laying claim to the position.
However, after a meeting of the BoT on Wednesday, they urged the party’s national working committee to immediately swear Ude-Okoye in as the substantive national secretary of the party.
George, who spoke as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, noted that the decision to back Ude-Okoye was based on the judgement of Court of Appeal which affirmed him as the authentic National Secreatary of PDP.
“So, what do you expect us to do? If Anyanwu decides to go to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court throws out that decision of the of the Court of Appeal, we will abide by that,"
George, however, urged Anyanwu to let go and allow peace to reign so that the party can focus on playing its role as an opposition party, adding that despite the crisis rocking the PDP, the party was still more organised internally than the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
He said he is not afraid of the PDP totally collapsing because he knows that the taproot of the party was still completely intact.
“If the taproot of Iroko tree is still deep rooted, only the wind that is blowing the tree at the top. We are going to resolve it. I believe in the resolution,” he added, pointing out the party was not a private enterprise of any individual, appealing to all sides to calm down.
He further urged Nigerians who were so hell-bent on their private ambition to find their way out of the party.
