Nine farmers have been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in a fresh attack on some communities in Benue State.
The killings are coming against the backdrop of massive deployment of security personnel to the flash points of Fulani herdsmen attack across some farming communities in the state.
The Nation reports that the attacks and killings took place in Ayilamo ,Tombo ward in Logo Local Government Area as well as Jato Acka, in Kwande Local Government Area of the state.
The Fulani herdsmen who were armed with sophisticated weapons and numbering over 20 stormed the sleepy town of Jato Acka in broad daylight and shot sporadically. killing six persons in the process.
The murderous herders thereafter moved to Ayilamo town in Tombo ward through Ikyungwa axis and killed three persons including personnel of Livestock Guard.
A community leader, Tyovenda Igyutu, told our correspondent that but for the quick intervention of soldiers and police, Ayilamo town would have been completely razed down .
In Jato acka , Lawrence Akerigba, a youth leader who confirmed the attack and killings said ” the invaders stormed the town at about 4 pm on Friday and set houses ablaze. People were shot and killed.”
The Benue Police Command said it was yet to get any report regarding the attacks.
