The Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Gregory Obi, has again donated ₦25 million to support the development of Shanahan University, Onitsha, Anambra State.
Obi made the additional donation at the Shanahan Hall of Holy Trinity Basilica, Onitsha Thursday, noting his firm belief that investment in education remained one of the most effective ways of building a productive and prosperous society.
Obi was accompanied on the visit by Professors Chinyere Stella Okunna and Patrick Obi, among others.
He told the students that education was not merely about acquiring certificates but about developing the knowledge, character, and skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to society, urging them to take their studies seriously and strive to become responsible future leaders capable of transforming the country for the better.
Addressing the students shortly after the presentation on the occasion, Rev. Fr. Basil Ekwunife, expressed profound gratitude to Obi for his continued concern for humanity through his consistent support for educational and social causes.
He also, commended Obi’s remarkable energy, dedication, and commitment to nation-building, noting that such qualities have distinguished him in public life.
According to Ekwunife, Obi possesses the vision, discipline, and the capacity required to lead the nation and deploy the same passion and energy he has demonstrated in private and public service for the good of the country.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Josephat Oguejiofor, also thanked Mr. Obi for his continued support for the institution.
Oguejiofor enumerated the numerous ways Obi had assisted the university since its inception, pointing out that what made his interventions particularly remarkable was that they often come without solicitation.
According to Prof Oguejiofor, Obi "is a genuine friend of education whose actions consistently reflect his commitment to the advancement of society."
He further explained that the vision of Shanahan University was to produce graduates who are not only academically sound but also morally upright and socially responsible, just as it was also, committed to nurturing individuals who will function optimally in society and contribute meaningfully to national development.
