Nnamdi Kanu's Tial : FG Of Breaching Judicial Process, Says IPOB
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has accused the Federal Government of allegedly breaching the judicial process in the ongoing prosecution of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
IPOB specifically accused the government of deliberately planting fake news in some media outlets over the trial proceedings, noticing that the news on alleged Kami's purported “Transmitter Confession” was not only  contemptuous, criminal but a violation of Judicial process
IPOB's statement was signed by its Director, Directorate of Legal Affairs, Research and Global Communications, Onyekachi Ifedi.
The Directorate of Legal Affairs, Research and Global Communications is not, however,  part of the defence team of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu led by Chief Kanu Agabi SAN.
Ifedi's statement read, "The attention of the Directorate of Legal and Global Communications of the IPOB, has been drawn to a deliberately false and malicious report published in a discredited online outlet, alleging that our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, admitted to smuggling a Biafra radio transmitter—an event that never occurred in court, and was never mentioned by the prosecution’s own witness.
"This falsehood is a deliberate fabrication orchestrated by the prosecution team led by Awomolo SAN, who also serves, as Chairman of the Body of Benchers, the apex regulatory body of legal ethics in Nigeria.
"That such a senior legal practitioner would facilitate the planting of fake narratives in the media, outside the official court record, is not only professionally irresponsible but legally actionable and sanctionable.
"Let it be clearly stated for the record:
At no time during the examination-in-chief of the prosecution witness codenamed PW3-CCC on 27th May 2025 did the witness make any reference to a transmitter, let alone testify that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu admitted to smuggling one. The transcript of the proceedings and the court record will confirm this.
The implications of this false reporting are deeply disturbing
*It constitutes willful contempt of court, as the matter referenced—Count 7 of the amended charge—is subject to a subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal which unequivocally held that the Federal High Court in Abuja lacks jurisdiction to entertain or try Count 7 within Nigeria’s territorial jurisdiction, let alone in the FCT.
*The deliberate use of the media to manipulate public perception with planted falsehoods is a gross abuse of prosecutorial powers. It confirms a pattern: when the Federal Government’s case begins to fall apart in the courtroom, they resort to trial by media, pushing lies through compromised outlets to sustain the illusion of legitimacy.
* The use of a fake witness, PW3-CCC, who under cross-examination could not identify the Assistant Director of Investigations (AD Investigations) at DSS Headquarters—an individual known to every genuine DSS officer—demonstrates the degree of deception and criminal conspiracy underpinning this entire prosecution.
"We place the Nigerian Judiciary, the international legal community, and the global public on notice:
"This prosecution has crossed the line into criminal manipulation of the justice system. That Awomolo SAN, a man charged with upholding legal ethics, is now associated with media propaganda and deliberate falsehoods, undermines the credibility of not just this case but the entire Nigerian legal system.
We therefore demand the following:
"That the Federal High Court issue an immediate summons for explanation from the prosecution team regarding this media leak and impose sanctions for contempt as appropriate;
"That the Body of Benchers immediately review Awomolo SAN’s continued suitability to serve as its Chair, given this flagrant abuse of prosecutorial power and legal ethics;
"That the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, investigate this matter as a case of professional misconduct under Rule 1 of the RPC, which prohibits conduct unbecoming of a legal practitioner;
"That the international community, including human rights observers and legal advocacy organizations, note this egregious manipulation of justice, as it constitutes part of a broader state-sponsored persecution of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu in defiance of domestic and international law.
"Fake news stories cannot salvage a case that has already collapsed in fact and in law. If the Nigerian state and its legal representatives had even a modicum of integrity, they would have withdrawn this charge through a nolle prosequi in compliance with the Court of Appeal judgment.
"Let it be known: we will pursue every legal remedy available—both domestic and international—to hold those responsible for this gross abuse of process accountable. The truth cannot be buried by propaganda."
