Ndume Says He's Advised President Tinubu to Address Nigerians Personally, Not Through Aides
Former Senate Majority Leader, Senator Ali Ndume says he has just advised President Bola Tinubu to speak directly with Nigerians on critical national issues instead of relying on aides and government officials to speak on his behalf.
Ndume spoke in an interview with reporters after a meeting with the Tinubu Thursday, noting that he urged the president to personally engage citizens, stressing that direct communication would strengthen public trust and allow Nigerians better understanding of his  administration’s policies and decisions, adding that  Tinubu received the suggestion positively, assuring him that he would give it due consideration.
Ndume spoke against the backdrop of recent controversies of bribery and corruption trailing high presidency officials as well as budget padding and extra budgetary expenses amounting to about N8.8 trillion as discovered by the international agencies including the International Monetary Fund, IMF.
His words, “I advised President Bola Tinubu to speak to Nigerians directly, rather than others speak on his behalf. He promised to look into it.”
Ndume, one of the oldest members of the National Assembly,, has sparked fresh discussions on the importance of presidential communication, with political observers noting that direct addresses from the nation’s leader often help shape public confidence, clarify government policies and counter misinformation.
His Spokespersons including Bayo Onanuga and Daniel Bwala, the special Adviser to President on Policy Communication have faced harsh criticisms over their penchant to abuse President Tinubu’s perceived opponents instead of addressing the citizens concerns.
Bwala, awyer and public affairs analyst
previously worked for former Vice President and longtime opposition leader, Atiku Abubakar's  Presidential Campaign Council in 2023 before becoming one of Tinubu's media aide.
