Jubilation As Senator Ike Ekweremadu's Expected Release From London Jail Approaches With Wife Arriving Nigeria

There was jubilation at the country home of the former Deputy Senate President, DSP, Ike Ekweremadu, Mpu, in Enugu State, as the wife, Mrs. Nwanneka, returned to the country, amid speculations that his husband would soon join her in Nigeria.

Nwanneka, was sentenced alongside her husband Chief Ike Ekweremadu in controversial circumstances, as both were accused of arranging for a young man, identified as David Nwamini, to travel to Britain, where he was to be exploited for his kidney, needed for their ailing daughter, Sonia.
Senator  Ekweremadu was jailed for nine years and eight months from Justice Jeremy Johnson at the Old Bailey, while his wife was sentenced to a four years and six months, with their intermediary, Dr. Obinna Obeta, sentenced to 10 years in prison in London.
The couple and Obeta were convicted of conspiracy to transport Nwamini to UK even as the young man was not properly briefed about the planned removal of his kidney  for the ailing Sonia.
After a six-week trial and conviction at London’s Central Criminal Court, the Ekweremadu and their doctor were found guilty of violating the Modern Slavery Act on May 5, 2023.
A family source confirmed that Mrs. Ekweremadu arrived in Abuja on Tuesday evening, sparking off jubilation by supporters, friends and relations.
Details of her return are not yet sketchy but sources confirmed that the former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu was also being expected back home.
