Former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has paid tributes to elder statesman Dr. Patrick Dele Cole on the occasion of his 85th birthday, describing him as an outstanding journalist, diplomat and one of Nigeria’s most distinguished public intellectuals.
The former President stated this in a goodwill message to Dr. Cole, in which he noted that the octogenarian has contributed so much to Nigeria’s development and “continues to deploy his deep knowledge and eloquence to advocate for reforms and a better Nigeria.”
He praised Dr. Cole’s life and career in journalism, public service and politics which, he said, reflect a rare blend of brilliance, courage, and commitment to nation-building.
Dr. Jonathan further described Dr. Cole as a sincere patriot who has served the country with passion and diligence in many capacities.
“Through the many chapters of his public service, as a scholar, diplomat, newspaper executive, presidential adviser, politician and commentator on national affairs, Dr. Cole has demonstrated an unshakable belief in Nigeria’s development, peace and progress.
“On this landmark occasion, we celebrate the depth of his impact and the strength of his legacy. May God continue to bless him with good health, peace, and the joy of seeing the seeds he has sown continue to bear fruit for the nation.”
