IBB Says  Abiola Actually Won The June 12, 1993: Presidential Election 

Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has acknowledged that the late Chief Moshood Abiola actually won the disputed June 12, 1993, presidential election. Babangida's spoke in his autobiography: A Journey in Service, unveiled in Abuja on Thursday.

Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has acknowledged that the late Chief Moshood Abiola actually won the disputed June 12, 1993, presidential election.
Babangida's spoke in his autobiography: A Journey in Service, unveiled in Abuja on Thursday.

Former Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, who reviewed the book, noted Babangida’s assertion that Abiola, who contested the election on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, secured both the majority of votes cast as well as the necessary national spread to be declared president.
However, reflecting on the outcome of the election which results was annulled by his regime, Babangida described it as one of the most difficult moments of his life. According to Babangida, “There was no doubt in my mind; MKO Abiola won the election. He met all the necessary conditions.”
Babangida expressed satisfaction that, one of his successors, President Muhammadu Buhari later acknowledged Abiola’s victory by posthumously awarding him the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR, title, an honor reserved only for presidents.
