How Senate President, Godswill Akpabio Made A "Costly" Gaffe Of Tinubu's Burial At Plenary
... As Governor Hope Uzodinma also, referred to Tinubu as former President Bola during a prayer session
The Senate President Godswill Akpabio made a gaffe while paying tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, by erroneously saying  that, "Nigerians are proud of the way Tinubu was buried."
This slip occurred during Senate plenary session on July 23, 2025.
Akpabio spoke just as the Imo State Governor, Hope Uxodinma referred to President Bola Tinubu, as "former President Bola" during a separate prayer session.
Akpabio was commending President Bola Tinubu for organizing a befitting state funeral for late Buhari.
However, in spite of the gaffe, Akpabio went ahead to praise Tinubu for setting a national standard in honoring leaders.
Meanwhile, the gaffe sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users poking fun at the mistake and others defending Akpabio.
This was even as the Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma made a similar slip-up  by mistakenly referring to Buhari as "former President Bola" during a prayer session.
Former President Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025 in a London hospital and was buried in his home town, Daura, Katsina State on July 15, 2025.
President Tinubu paid glowing tribute to kare Buhari and declared  a 7 all seven -day national mourning period for him; granted a public holiday, and renamed the University of Maiduguri after Buhari.
