Enugu State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and professor of Medicine, Professor Uchenna Augustine Akubue, has resigned from the party.
Akubue who was elected chairman of the , on April 11, 2026. He was billed to be sworn in, alongside other members of the party's executive, on May 12.
In a letter addressed to the chairman of the ADC, Ward 2, Aku, Igbo-Etiti LGA of Enugu State, and dated May 2, 2026, Akubue nformed him that he would no longer be available for the swearing-in on May 12.
Citing "pressing personal issues" as reason for the resignation, Akubue said it took effect immediately. "I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the delegates and members of our party," he said, pointing out he would allow the party to proceed with selecting new leadership without delay. "I wish the party strength and success in the work ahead," he further stated.
Akubue who is believed to be moving to the Nigeria Democratic Party, NDC.
