A student in Delta State has stabbed his younger brother to death during a quarrel in their residence in the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the incident occured on.June 17, 2026.
Edafe noted that the incident reportedly involved two brothers, identified as Fejiro, 21, and Joseph, 19, who were students of the same tertiary institution and lived together in accommodation provided by their parents.
Confirming the development on Monday, the police spokesman described the tragedy as a disturbing reminder of the importance of moral upbringing and proper parental guidance.
Edafe, further stated that what began as a disagreement between the siblings later degenerated into a physical combat, adding that neighbours initially intervened and separated them, but the dispute reportedly resumed shortly afterwards, when the two brothers moved to another part of the premises where the fight escalated, resulting in the younger sibling sustaining multiple stab wounds and later died.
He alleged that the elder brother used a kitchen knife during the attack before fleeing the scene, leaving the victim critically injured. Joseph was later confirmed dead from the injuries.
Edafe further noted that the suspect was still on the run, pointing out, however, that efforts were ongoing to track him down and bring him to justice, even as he further hinted that investigators would examine possible links to drug abuse or cult-related activities, but no conclusion had been reached.
The police further urged parents and guardians to instill sound values in their children, adding that respect, self-control and family values and bonds remained crucial in preventing avoidable tragedies.
