Chief Olabintan Famutimi, Founder & Chairman, Tricontinental Group, a leading Oil Services group in Nigeria; Past President, Nigeria America Chamber of Commerce, NACC, and Vice Patron,Nigeria-Britain Association, turned 80 on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. A very hardworking, kind, gentle and detribalized Nigerian, Chief Famutimi, the philanthropist, is a gentleman whom we at Nigeria and Entrepreneurship:Summit & Honors, NESH, Foundation are proud to be associated with.
The birthday celebration was held at his Lekki Phase 1, Lagos residence. However, things became a bit complicated as the birthday clashed with the handing-over ceremony of the immediate past President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu, to the newly elected national executive of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the socio-cultural umbrella organization of the Igbo nation, which took place in Enugu same day.
I had participated in the election that ushered in the new national executive and was looking forward to attending the handover ceremony if invited. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I chose to stay back in Lagos to attend the birthday celebration Let me use this opportunity to thank Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu for serving the Igbo nation meritoriously during his very short tenure as President-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and also wish my good friend and brother, Senator John Azuta Mbata, a very successful tenure as the President-General of Ohanaeze.
Chief Famutimi’s birthday celebration commenced midday with a Thanksgiving Service for God's blessings on the celebrant. Thereafter, it was then time to enjoy good music performed by a live band, accompanied by small chops, food and drinks, for the guests. In attendance were family, friends and associates of Chief Famutimi. We were opportune to catch up and socialize with some of our mutual friends at the celebration - Sir & Lady Egbert Imomoh, Chief & Mrs G. T. Grant, Dr. Charles Hammond, Sir Steve Omojafor, Chief Mrs Senna Anthony, Architect Timothy Awagu, Prof. Toyin Ashiru, Dr. Seyi Robert, Mr. Tunji Oyebanji, Mallam Tajudeen Ahmed, Barrister Chuba Mbanefo, Mr. Bernie Grant. We all had a good time.
As we celebrate, we also remember those who mourn.
Sunday, February 9, marked the one year anniversary of a tragic accident in the USA that claimed the lives of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, a NESH Foundation Honoree, and former CEO, Access Bank Plc, his wife and son; and Mr. Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former Group Chairman, Nigeria Exchange Group Plc. May their souls continue to rest in perfect peace and may God continue to comfort and protect all the loved ones they left behind.
Once again, Happy 80th Birthday to a jolly good fellow, Chief Famutimi, a High Chief of Ondo Kingdom. May God continue to bless and keep you in good health for many more years.
