Borno Confirms Death Of 40 Farmers Killed In Boko Haram/ISWAP Attack

The Borno State government has confirmed death of no fewer than 40 farmers killed during an attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on the Dumba community near Baga in the Kukawa Local Government Area of the state.

The attack on farmers and fishermen who ventures beyond designated safe zones in the area occured on Sunday.
However, the state Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, who confirmed the incident on Monday, strongly condemned the violence, expressing deep sadness and anguish over the famers' untimely deaths.
He expressed his condolences to the victims’ families assuring the public that an extensive investigation into the incident was currently underway, even as  many of those who escaped the attack were still being tracked down.
The state Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, said in a statement detailing the attack, noted that about 40 farmers were killed, with the fate of many others yet unknown, pointing out that, the government was working to reunite survivors with their families.
He further that, Governor Zulum had urged Operation Hadin Kai, the military operation combating insurgency in the region, to quickly locate and eliminate the perpetrators just as he emphasised the importance of citizens adhering to the government and security agencies’ designated safe zones in order to avoid future calamites.
According to him, the farmers strayed outside the secured corridors, entering an area that had not yet been cleared of insurgents and where there were landmines.
Meanwhile, the state government has praised the efforts of the armed forces to clear large areas of land for safe resettlement and agriculture.
It therefore, urged farmers, fishermen, and local communities to limit their activities to designated safe corridors, stressing that this step was critical for both citizen safety and effective counter-terrorism operations.
