Atiku's Aide Asks Vice President Shettima To Explain His Relationship With Convicted Boko Haram Bomber, Kabiru Sokoto

... Says who authorized Kabiru Sokoto's entry into Borno Governor's Lodge as governor in 2012

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar 's Media Aide, Paul Ibe, has asked the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, to explain who authorized the entry of a convicted Boko Haram Commander, Kabiru Sokoto's use of Borno Governor's Lodge in Abuja, after planting a bomb that killed 40 Catholic Church worshippers at St Theresa's Church, Madala, Abuja on December 25, 2011.
Ibe raised the questions over Vice President Shettima’s alleged link to Kabiru Sokoto, who was arrested at the Borno Governor’s Lodge in Abuja in 2012, after the bombing incident.
The media adviser to Atiku, revisited the arrest of Sokoto in January 2012, in a post on X on Thursday urging Shettima to explain how the wanted terrorist gained access to an official government facility.
Sokoto, the mastermind of the  2011 bombing of Catholic Church, was picked up by security agents inside the Borno State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, at a time Shettima was governor of Borno.
The Borno State Government, however, denial, any link with the suspect describing his presence at the lodge as a security breach, but Ibe noted that the denial then was not enough.
His words, “How did a notorious Boko Haram terrorist gain access to the official residence of a sitting governor? “An official denial does not eliminate the legitimate questions arising from such an extraordinary incident...
“Nigerians deserve the full records of the Kabiru Sokoto investigation, an explanation of the security failures at the Borno Governor’s Lodge, and a transparent accounting of the decisions that shaped the fight against Boko Haram.
“Public office does not confer immunity from difficult questions. The victims of Boko Haram deserve justice. Nigerians deserve answers.
"Those who governed at the height of the insurgency, including you, (Shettima) must be prepared to account for how your actions and inactions may have enabled terrorism.
“The blood of innocent Nigerians must never be reduced to a footnote in the political careers of their leaders.
“This is not about religion or ethnicity. These are questions of public accountability."
Ibe then demanded answers on who authorised and facilitated access to the lodge, what investigations found afterwards, whether anyone was sanctioned, and why Nigerians have not been given a full account of the incident more than a decade later.
The Atiku camp further linked the incident to broader security failures in Borno during Shettima’s tenure, including the 2014 abduction of Chibok schoolgirls, insisting Nigerians deserve full disclosure on the decisions taken during the peak of the Boko Haram insurgency.
According to the media aide, the Vice President must account for his stewardship and the lessons learned during the period.
