UNN's Prof Chris Agbedo Among 52 Scholars Selected For Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences Globally

NSUKKA---- Head of Department of Linguistics, A Professor of Linguistics, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Prof Chris Agbedo, is among 52 other scholars selected across the globe for advanced studies in Humanities and Social Sciences.

Agbedo is the only Nigerian in the list and one of the two scholars from Africa selected for this year's fellowship by the Dutch Institute.

They scholars were selected by the Netherland - based Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences,  NIAS-KNAW, Amsterdam for its 2020/21 academic fellowship.

Founded in 1971, NIAS-KNAW is the oldest independent Institute for Advanced Study in Europe.

The selection, according to the information on the NIAS-KNAW website was done after  a rigorous and independent selection procedure, evaluated on merit, excellence and innovativeness of the research topics within the applicant's respective careers. 

Reacting to the development at the UNN, Nsukka Monday, Agbedo said he felt fulfilled over the development, adding that, "It's  a recognition of my modest contribution to knowledge creation and advancement by the Royal Dutch Institute. 

"I remain eternally grateful to God for His grace that made it possible."

Agbedo said that he would be  discussing the topic 'Manipulative Character of Political Communication in Nigeria and Implications for Constitutional Democracy in Africa," during the academic exercise which would be holding later in the year.
